Trying to work out if this is plate or silver.
Shines up like silver, looks like silver and no sign of plate wear, but the marks don’t look right.
Anyone shed any light on this please
Markings look like silver plate but can’t track it down…
It’s definitely electroplate. The marks are attributed to Thomas Prime & Son of Birmingham and MP is an abbreviation of Magneto Plate (Prime’s business address was Patent Magneto Plate Works, Northwood Street, Birmingham). The “A” denotes the manufacturer’s estimate of plating quality; top quality is normally A1.
