Picked up this large platter. The only mark is the right facing lion. No other hallmarks anywhere. Any thoughts? The light reflections are on the upclose photo, no copper or under metals shinning through in person.
The only thing I can think of is Oneida.
ONEIDA SILVERSMITHS - Sherrill NY
Tableware manufacture began in 1877. Incorporated in New York in 1880 under the name Oneida Community Limited. Moved to Niagara Falls in 1880. Moved to Sherrill in 1912-1914. Name changed to Oneida Ltd in 1935. Used the trade mark [NIAGARA FALLS 1877 SILVER CO]
This doesn’t look anything at all like the lions that Oneida routinely used, which are always standing on their hind legs, and always as a pair. Have you seen this image online somewhere?
I only associated a similar plate with the lion symbol. I have not come across a similar symbol before.
I was thinking maybe Dutch? I can’t find any other marks & I dont know if it is for the silver purity, or the maker.
The lion is exactly the same in Bartholomew’s link but, for those who may be wary of clicking on links, that one also has a fleur-de-lis. That exact lion and fleur-de-lis mark cropped up in a query on 925-1000.com and, although not identified, was believed to be “silver plated and almost certainly of American origin”, an opinion with which I agree.

That is definitely the exact lion! Thank you
Thank you, I did click the link & yes - it is the exact same. Thank you both for your time.
