I’ve decided that I need to try and get some silver invested before it catches back up to its normal percentage level with gold. Thought I’d snapped a bargain up for just 50p but, with the help of actually being able to see the stamps, I am thinking that my lack of magnification at the time, means I’ve bought a worthless electroplated fish knife but it’s all very strange, they don’t appear to be hallmarks as I know them with a crown etc but, I’m aware that there’s a lot of weird stamps out there, and as the stamps aren’t very clear, I’ll do my best to provide a picture as close and clear as possible. I used a green lightsaber as an alternative light source when I took the picture, so any green tint is from that. It does look longer tarnished silver but, then it would with a silver plate.
The best I can make it it reads as follows W A R D 6D TP/EP S
I appreciate your help in advance thank you for your time.
EP stands for ElectroPlate. Sorry, but you can’t retire to the south of France on the proceeds.
Fish knives are somewhat amusing. This was an invention to take care of a problem that didn’t need a solution. People would normally pull their fish apart with two forks. Very effective, very simple. But then someone decided that what was need was a dedicated “fish knife.” Produced by all kinds of companies. But no one ever used them, because they didn’t need to. As a result, they all survived, and are now available in every car boot sale.
I figured it was but for 50 pence it was worth the gamble. Given that I couldn’t quite make it out properly. Thank you for the confirmation.
And yes they are so stupid as a cutlery utensil. One of my trades is catering, everything from chef to fill in Silver service, so I’m well trained in the service aspect and even in a Royal event, where fish was served and the fish knives were on the table, not a single person used them. I’m 27 years I have never seen them used when they are on the table.
