Hi I need help identifying this German makers mark inside a ring. The ring used to be owned by a German naval officer from WW1 who might have lived in Kiel and was bought in Munich. Any help identifying the makers mark appreciated.
The numbers appear to be 585 which may represent 14ct Gold !!.
Stamped HH monogram for Hans Rudi Hofer.
I can find no evidence of any Hofer pieces from earlier than about 1930. If this was, indeed, owned by a WWI naval officer, that would seem to rule Hofer out. In addition, this appears to be “HN,” not “HH.”
Historyacademic1, better quality photo, please.
Thanks both. Will send a better photo tomorrow
Here you are. It appears to be “H i H” or “H + H” with the second H with a slanted horizontal bit?
The 585 does signify that it’s 14K gold, so you might have better luck on a forum dedicated to gold jewelry. The people who frequent this site are “silver people,” and while there’s some overlap between those worlds, they’re quite different.
And I still maintain that an “H with a slanted horizontal bar” is an “N.”
