Please, I need help with identification of this platter. I’m guessing it’s sterling from Dublin, I can’t figure out the age.
Hello, it really is a piece made in Dublin, but the lyrics of the year are missing. I believe that contrasted W is from the manufacturer, because there was clearly another letter next to it. Without the 2nd letter of the manufacturer and the letter of the year, I think it would be difficult to find out more, but it is sterling silver.
The form of the Hibernia and harp marks limit the possibe dates to between 1731 and 1786. I am pretty sure that the maker’s mark is that of William Townsend who was working in Dublin 1726-1775.
