Hi there,
I’m new to the silver trade and am just starting to learn how to identify and price things.
I have a dish with lid that i am trying to get more information about what this is, where it’s from, and what its value is.
I see that it has the Rampant Lion, so I know that it’s from Scotland. I just don’t understand the “CS” and other symbols and am unable to find them elsewhere.
Thanks for your help!
The rampant lion does not necessarily mean Scotland. Many non-British silver companies have included it in their trademarks. In this case I suspect that the manufacturer is an American company and that the dish is electroplated - American silver is normally marked “sterling”. Continental Silver Co used the five-pointed star on some of their electroplate but I have been unable to identify the marks on your dish definitively.
