Mappin and Webb strange mark....Help

First post here, hope to be here often.

I have a Mappin and Webb tray and need some help with a strange mark on the bottom. It looks like }<>{

i will try and upload some pictures.

It’s probably some sort of factory / quality control ID - in any case, as far as I’m aware, of no significance at all.
