Locking decanter- solved thx!

Found this great locking decanter. The mechanism is sterling, but Im confused about the date I think it says 1885 but it also says made in England which I thought was only normally included after 1891… and unless Im mistaken the date letter is different.

Anyone know anything about the maker?

The hallmark is Birmingham, 1928, and the maker is John Grinsell & Sons.

The 1985 is not a date (and it’s not 1885) - it’s just a model number.

Thanks! Lol the marks always seem to be to impossibly tiny for me to read!

Time to invest in a jeweler’s loupe!
