This is an Edinburgh hallmark with the date letter G for 1981. The lion is actually a lion rampant and the tower is the castle mark of the Edinburgh Assay Office. The maker’s mark is MG (Malcolm Gray) and it was made by Gray’s company, Ortak Silvercraft, at Kirkwall on the island of Orkney. The Viking-themed decoration is characteristic of the output of the company.
