Help requested to identify EPNS mark JG & SL

I’d really appreciate help identifying the mark J G & S L. It is on the base of a cruet set. It is stamped EPNS. I’ve searched all over the web but cannot find this mark anywhere.

The only maker that “fits” the initials would be John Grinsell & Sons, Ltd, and they did make things like cruet sets. But I have yet to find that specific mark illustrated anywhere. Granted, silverplate (EPNS) marking is subject to more “freelancing” than the marking for sterling, but this will have to remain a “wild guess” for the moment.

Welcome to the forum Hirstilini

Very likely to be a Grinsell mark with the L conventionally standing for London. Electroplate marks are unregulated and not all variations are recorded.

Thanks, I had found John Grinsell but also haven’t been able to find the exact mark. Appreciate your help.

Thanks Jools good to be on the forum :grinning:

Thank you, that makes sense. It was driving me crazy as I had looked all over and couldn’t match the mark exactly.
