Hi everyone!
Someone has a 3+KG sterling center piece for sale. I am sceptical about the weight of the piece as silver is quite light compared to base metals in plated pieces - although the item may be quite thick.
Also, something seems off with the marks. I’ve been had in the past with fake hallmarks and would like to save myself a two-hour drive so any help would be very appreciated.
And out of curiosity, how much would you pay for this for scrap value
(USD or CAD?)
Thanks a million! -Gab
It reminds Lazy Susan By Hartford Sterling Co, but hallmarks are different…
You have a good eye Bartholomew. With that said I have not seen an identical piece by looking at their creations.
Thank you so much for your reply. Do you find that the hallmarks look a bit odd? Most if not all sterling / Britannia have indented hallmarks am I right?
All my other silver pieces do.
Anyone else?

It is almost certainly electroplate as there is no fineness indication, and my guess would be American. Note that the mark is not a hallmark, rather a manufacturer’s mark. Hallmarks are applied by independent bodies as a guarantee of fineness and, by definition, can never appear on electroplate.
Thanks a million for your reply Silvermakersmarks.
