I inherited a two piece Scottish Sterling Dish. It has scrolled trim around both pieces & on the cover the handle is removable. The engraving on the bottom of the dish says,
E.P.T. then a symbol of a horse head and something else, then, the numbers 1601 1/2
Can you tell me if this is old and maybe some of the value to it. Thank you.
I am interested to know what makes you think that your dish is Scottish and sterling. Scottish silver is normally hallmarked and the marks you describe sound like a manufacturer’s trade mark rather than a hallmark. A picture of the marks would help and it would also be useful to know what country you are in or what geographical information you might have about the bowl as a starting point for identification.
