Can anyone identify this Birmingham maker? The item pictured is dated 1913, and Phil’s site records sightings in 1925 and 1936, but no identification. Thanks for any info you might have.
The date mark is more likely to be O for 1938 as I have a sighting in 1936, only 2 years away. You could try contacting the Birmingham Assay Office directly. Contact us | Birmingham Assay Office.
Thanks as always Phil. I’ve written to them and I’ll let you know if they come up trumps (then you can update the makers’ marks page).
That would be great, Nick. Thanks.
As sent to you separately, Birmingham inform me that “F.W.R is Frank Wearing Rambridge, registered as ‘silversmith and jeweller’; his business address was given as Chancery Lane Safe Deposit, London, EC. He first registered with us 11th February 1913 and last 20th January 1925”. This does however leave the question open as to how you have a sighting (according to silvermakersmarks.co.uk) in 1936.
Again, many thanks indeed for having helped solve the question of his identity…
What they mean is that, having registered in 1913, he re-registered at least one more time in 1925, possibly on expiry of the previous one or maybe a change of details. So 1936 is still a potentially valid date. 1913 looks good for the tea strainer.
Many thanks for posting this update. It’s much appreciated.
