I’m having a little trouble with these markings. Is that a sheaf of wheat? It looks like it would be dated to 1928 based on the first 3 marks but I don’t know about the last mark.
Anyone know the date? Or what kind of dish this is?
Birks is a Canadian silver maker. In 1925, they got permission from the London assay office to use the same date lettering on their sterling pieces, so it is, indeed, their own version of the lion-passant, a sheaf of wheat (a Birks trademark), and an “n” for 1928.
No clue about the final mark, but since it’s a pseudo-hallmark, I suppose they could have made up anything they wanted.

Without knowing the size, tough to say what it is. If it’s tiny, like 10cm across or less, I’d say “salt cellar,” but if it’s somewhat larger, I’d say “jam dish.”
I forgot to put in the dimensions. It’s 4 3/4 inches across and 2 1/4 tall.
Yes, too big for a salt. More in the “condiment/jam dish” range.
Ok thanks for the info.
