Can anyone please help identify what this piece is called & it’s markings? I’m new to collecting silver and find it so interesting. However, I know its not all 925 and I’m trying to learn how to read markings.
Thank you so much!
I would suggest that it’s probably a pin tray, a small receptacle which a lady would put on her dressing table to hold hair pins and other small items.
The mark is what is known as a “pseudo-mark” - meant to look like an English hallmark but probably applied by the silversmith himself, most likely American or possibly Chinese export. Consequently it is not a guarantee of silver fineness.
